Updates on the Eddie Spaghetti campaign

Over the course of the past several weeks, Asheville Mutual Aid has been working diligently on a campaign against the ownership of a local restaurant, Eddie Spaghetti, after one of their former employees came forward with grievances of wage theft. Initially, AMA responded by delivering a list of demands to the owner, Louie, with a detailed description of grievances from their previous employee; as well as a list of demands that would improve the working conditions of current and future employees. Several weeks passed since the delivery of the letter with no response from the management. On August 15th, AMA hosted a picket in front of Eddie Spaghetti which AMA and the former employee considered a success, despite picketers facing verbal and physical assaults by Louie and an employee. In subsequent weeks, members of AMA have been targeted once again by Louie. On Monday, August 27th, a small group of AMA members left flyers on cars throughout the parking lot where Eddie Spaghetti is situated. Louie, the owner, spotted the folks flyering cars and promptly called the police. Two of our comrades were then issued trespassing charges, and have court dates scheduled for this fall.

Despite the attempts at intimidation leveled at us, our resolve to in some way address the abuses of this business is tireless. Keep checking this website for updates on this campaign, and if you would like to get involved you can reach us at ashevillemutualaid@gmail.com.
